An art instructor since 2003, I have developed a visual arts teaching curriculum that is continuously evolving with new content added regularly. I focus my efforts on teaching art in a way that is engaging, challenging, and individualized, for participants at all levels.

Join this online group and explore aspects of line drawing, tone, colour, composition and more, as they relate to your drawing or painting. You choose the subject matter and medium: pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, coloured pencil, soft pastel, paint. I provide individual instruction and guidance, suggest next steps, demonstrate techniques in drawing and painting and cover topics of interest to the group. You will have access to a video recording of each class.

This course will focus on the basics of line drawing and tones (shading). Working from reference photos of your choice, you will learn about rough sketches, making corrections, measuring, using a plumb line, perspective, creating the illusion of depth. I provide individual instruction and guidance, demonstrate techniques, and cover topics of interest to the group. You can explore colour in a range of media as you advance your drawing skills. Media: graphite pencil, charcoal, soft pastels, coloured pencil (incl. water soluble), pen and ink.

In this course you will learn an approach to painting with one-on-one guidance and instruction. Work from reference photos of your choice. We will cover a range of painting techniques (blending, softening edges, scumbling, glazing), practical colour theory and colour mixing using a limited palette, discuss compositional elements and other topics of interest to the group.
